Six sites and a new look

  • The site and the app have a new design, simpler and quicker to read: you pick your printer and upload the file on the first screen.
  • Models from Creality Cloud, makeronline (Anycubic) and Snapmaker Space now convert too, along with MakerWorld, Printables and Meshy. The home page shows which sites you can bring models from and what to download on each.
  • Each plate's prime tower now sits next to that plate's pieces, where the designer put it. Before, it went to the same spot on every plate and sometimes hit a piece.
  • If a piece doesn't fit straight on the bed but does when rotated, the notice tells you how many degrees to turn it. Before, it only suggested scaling it.
  • Purging between colors is the same whatever layer height you choose, the one OrcaSlicer and Flash Studio use. And if the file's purge table was scrambled, your printer's is used and you're told.
  • The Chrome extension gets the same new design, can be paused from its icon (right click) and takes two printers: if you set a second one, each download asks you which one to convert for. And when it can't read a file, it tells you what to do.

1.2.0 ·

Converts your downloads on its own

  • There is a Chrome extension: when a .3mf finishes downloading, it converts it for your printer on its own and leaves the converted file next to the original, with the report if you want it. Free, on the Chrome Web Store.
  • If your browser cannot read the file you chose, it now tells you and asks you to choose it again. Before, it looked like your connection had dropped.
  • On Safari, when the server is full or slows you down for retrying too fast, it now says so and waits on its own. Before, it looked like your connection had dropped.
  • In the report, a setting with one value per extruder type (Standard and High Flow, in Bambu Studio 2) shows each value with its name. Before, both came out glued together with a comma.

Colors by height are kept

  • A photo made with MakerWorld's ChromaCanvas, or any model that changes color by height, keeps all its colors when converted. Before, it could come out in a single color.
  • When a part is bigger than the bed in any orientation, the notice now names it and says what scale fits. Before, it suggested rearranging, which in that case is not enough.
  • A project that another slicer saved again with the plates reordered no longer sends parts outside the plate.
  • On a multi-head printer, an object painted entirely in one color no longer makes it switch heads or purge for a base color it never printed.
  • Three new questions in the FAQ, about Bambu Studio and MakerWorld with a Flashforge and about the zero flushing volume notice, and a page about who makes ForgeBridge.

1.1.4 ·

The support filament is kept

  • A project that prints its supports or raft with a dedicated filament keeps that filament when converted. Before, it could get trimmed away.
  • Color-painted projects now carry a new notice: if you repair or simplify the object in the slicer, the painting is erased. Many people took that for a conversion fault.
  • If you upload a 3MF that only carries the shape of the part, with no slicing project inside, the message no longer sends you looking for another button: it tells you that file opens directly in your slicer.

1.1.3 ·

A painted model that could not be converted

  • Some files with color painting failed with an unexpected error and there was no way to convert them. Now the conversion finishes anyway: if the painting cannot be read, the file keeps every filament the designer set.

1.1.2 ·

Printables projects with several beds

  • PrusaSlicer lets you spread the pieces of a project across several beds, which is the norm for the organizers, boxes and multi-part sets on Printables. Converting one left those pieces piled up outside the plate, and the report asked you to scale the model down for no reason. Now every bed arrives as a plate of the project, with its pieces where the designer put them.
  • In those same projects, layer color changes only traveled on the first bed. Now they follow the plate they belong to.

1.1.1 ·

The preview image of Printables projects

  • Files converted from PrusaSlicer came out without the model's preview image, so the slicer showed an empty thumbnail. The image now travels with the file.

1.1.0 ·

PrusaSlicer and Printables projects

  • PrusaSlicer projects, the ones you download from Printables as a project file, now convert just like Bambu Studio ones. Until now ForgeBridge rejected them, and OrcaSlicer and Flash Studio open them as geometry only: infill, walls, supports and everything the designer tuned is lost. Now all of that travels into the converted file.
  • Parts and modifiers of each object are kept (denser infill in one area only, for example), along with hand-painted supports, multicolor painting and the color of each filament exactly as you saw it in PrusaSlicer, including projects made for a multi-tool printer.
  • If the model uses more colors than your printer holds at a time, the report tells you before you print: until now the file came out with every color and you found out in the slicer. This applies to any model, from Printables or MakerWorld.
  • Two fixes that also improve MakerWorld files: a model made with a nozzle thicker than yours no longer drags the other printer's line widths along, and models that sat in a corner of the bed now land centered on yours.

Files up to 100 MB thanks to the community, colour changes by layer, and the extruder for each filament

  • The maximum file size goes from 64 to 100 MB. It was possible because the server moved to a bigger one, and that server is paid for with what the community contributed on Ko-fi. Every coffee from these weeks is in there: thank you to everyone who chipped in.
  • Models that change colour by layer (bookmarks, signs, many on MakerWorld) came out in a single colour: those changes live in a part of the file that was not being read, and the trimming of unused filaments threw them away. Now they count as usage and the converted file keeps every colour and its change height. If it already happened to you with a file, convert it again.
  • On a Creator 5 or 5 Pro, in "Adjust filaments" you now choose which extruder each filament goes to. Until now ForgeBridge assigned them in order, and if yours was loaded in extruder 3 you had to fix it in the slicer.
  • The converted file is now downloaded by the browser itself, with its own progress. The previous way failed with "unexpected error" for some people on Chrome and Edge, when the browser could not reserve temporary space on disk, mostly with large files.
  • When you write to me from the app or from Contact, your email is now required: without it I had nobody to reply to, and more than one report went unanswered because of that. There is a field to paste the link to the model, and from the app the conversion details travel along (the file name, the printer, the profile and the notices) so I can reproduce what happened to you. Never the file.

Printer first, the ironing angle, and a place to write to me

  • You pick the printer before uploading the file: all five are in view, and the upload area appears once you have chosen one. Until now the app came with the AD5X preselected, and more than one person converted for the wrong machine without noticing.
  • The ironing angle now travels with the project. Bambu stores it under one name and Orca reads it under another, so the converted file ironed parallel to the top-layer lines instead of at 45°. If it already happened to you, the setting in Orca or Flash Studio is called "Ironing angle offset".
  • The site has a blog and a contact page, and the app offers to leave me a message after converting or when something fails. I read what you write myself; if you leave your email, I reply there.

1.0.10 ·

The purge table no longer arrives broken from a dual-nozzle Bambu

  • If the project came from a Bambu H2D (two nozzles), the converted file carried the source printer's color-purge table, with more rows than your colors, and Flash Studio warned "Partial flushing volume set to 0" with an empty table. The table now comes out sized for the colors you use and your printer. If it already happened to you with a file, hit Re-Calculate in that same dialog and save.

Supported printers in plain sight, and the Creator family without the label

  • You now see the five supported printers without opening the selector: in the app, under "Choose your printer", and on the home page. People in the groups kept asking "does it support the 5M Pro?" with the selector right in front of them.
  • The Creator 5 and Creator 5 Pro are no longer marked as experimental: there are more than enough real prints by now. The conversion notice stays, rewritten: it tells you that ForgeBridge assigned the filaments in order, one per extruder, so you can check it before slicing.
  • PLA for the Creator family is registered as "Generic PLA", which is what the printer shows when you load it. The values are the same; only the label changes.
  • The site and the app now say who is behind the project and how to support it. Minor site touches.

1.0.8 ·

The conversion explained in detail, and what to do with an .stl

  • There is a new page explaining what happens to your file when you convert it: what is kept from the model's author, what is replaced by your printer's profile, and why speeds never carry over. You will find it linked under the “What it keeps” section of the main page, in both languages.
  • If you upload an .stl, the notice now explains it: an .stl carries only the geometry, with no settings to convert, so you don't need ForgeBridge. Open it straight in your slicer with your printer's profile.
  • Minor site touch-ups.

1.0.7 ·

The right build plate in your slicer, and the size warning measures your model

  • Converted files now open with the textured PEI plate selected, the one these printers ship with. The plate used to be left undefined and the slicer would show the Cool Plate, with the bed up to 30 degrees colder than it should be: the first layer could fail to stick. Two users reported it on the same day.
  • The “doesn't fit the bed” warning now measures the actual model, not the number the original program left in the file. A model that widens as it goes up (wider at mid-height than resting on the bed) used to pass without a warning and then fail in the slicer; now it tells you the scale at which it would fit.
  • The FAQ is up to date: which printers are supported and how each one is doing, how multicolor works depending on your printer model, and what happens with speeds when converting.

1.0.6 ·

Notices tell you whether to act, and Meshy models

  • Every notice in the report now carries a label: “No action needed”, “Check” or “Action needed”. The ones that need something come first, and if there is nothing to do, the title says so. The texts explain what happened and why, without jargon. A user new to printing asked whether two notices were a problem (they weren't).
  • Meshy's multicolor models convert whole, with their colors. If the file is too big because Meshy saves it uncompressed, the app compresses it in your browser before uploading. If your model is a single color, there's no need to convert it: download the STL and open it straight in the slicer.
  • On the Adventurer 5M and 5M Pro, models from Meshy and other programs that don't declare their plate used to land off the bed when opened; they're placed correctly now.
  • If you upload a .3mf that didn't come from Bambu Studio (say, Fusion 360 or Tinkercad), the notice names the program that made it and tells you what to do: open it straight in your slicer if it's your own design, or download the print profile instead of the model file if it's from MakerWorld.

1.0.5 ·

You can see the upload, and it tells you when it drops

  • While your file uploads you see the percentage and how many MB have been sent, with a bar. Until now the screen said “Converting…” from the first second, and on a slow connection it looked like the converter had frozen.
  • If the connection drops halfway through the upload, the notice says at what percentage it happened and that it was your network, not the converter, with a button to try again without picking the file again. It was the most frequent failure, and it showed up as “no connection to the server”, which read like the site was down.
  • If you open the app right while we publish a new version (a few seconds), the printer list and the support buttons load on their own as soon as the server is back; before, you had to reload the page.
  • A PrusaSlicer or Printables project is no longer shown as an error: you get a “Coming soon” notice, because we are working on that conversion, with an email address to send us your file if you want to help test it.
  • Design touch-ups: the start screen, the menu and the footer were rearranged so that what matters stands out, and several texts were rewritten to be clearer.

1.0.4 ·

The Creator 5 no longer keeps its waiting print heads hot

  • Fixed: on a Creator 5 or Creator 5 Pro, the converted file kept all four print heads at printing temperature for the whole job, because it carried over the idle-extruder settings of the Bambu file (a single-head printer). When the printer switched heads, the softened filament in the waiting head would not flow and the printer reported a clog that was not there once cold. The Flashforge profile now decides: heads that are not printing drop by 80 °C, as in Flash Studio. Reported by the first person to print on a Creator 5 through ForgeBridge.
  • Six settings that belong to the printer (auxiliary fan, air filtration, chamber temperature control, the bed temperature rule and two Bambu-only ones) no longer travel from the original file or show up in the report as modified process settings: your printer's profile decides them.

1.0.3 ·

The tab icon is ForgeBridge's now

  • The browser tab showed the icon of the tool the app is built with, not ForgeBridge's. It now carries the site's mark. If you still see the old one, that is your browser's cache: it refreshes on its own.

1.0.2 ·

Two notices that now tell you what to do

  • If your model does not fit on the build plate, the notice now says at what scale it would (“scale them to 88 % or less”), so you can adjust it in the slicer with one click, seeing what you do.
  • A file that does not come from Bambu Studio no longer comes back “converted” with no changes at all. ForgeBridge now rejects it and tells you what to do: if it is from PrusaSlicer, that we do not convert it yet; if it is a model exported as geometry only, how to save the project from Bambu Studio or MakerWorld.

1.0.1 ·

Your build plate and your network printer are yours again

  • Fixed: a converted file no longer carries the bed type or the printer host of whoever saved the original. A file exported from a Bambu Lab printer used to hand your slicer a “Supertack Plate” your Flashforge does not have, every time you opened the project. Your own selection is respected now.

1.0.0 ·

The first stable release

  • Five Flashforge printers: Adventurer 5X, 5M and 5M Pro, plus Creator 5 and 5 Pro. The two Creator 5 models are the first with four print heads and their profile is marked experimental: nobody has printed one yet.
  • Your multicolor model keeps its colors, and each slot gets the official Flashforge preset for its material. You can change any slot and convert again without uploading the file a second time.
  • Objects land inside the build plate. Bambu files store their position in their own coordinate system; ForgeBridge translates it to your printer's, so the project opens ready to slice instead of showing everything off the plate.
  • A report that tells the truth: every conversion shows what was kept, what your printer's profile replaced and what was dropped, with the reason.
